Dr. Michel J. Tremblay publishes article in The Journal of Immunology

CanCURE Principal Investigator Dr. Michel J. Tremblay, from the Centre hospitalier universitaire (CHU) de Québec Research Centre in Québec City, has recently published a scientific article in The Journal of Immunology. Dr. Tremblay's research team brings new mechanistic explanations of how HIV infection increases secretion of a molecule named BAFF (B cell-activating factor) by human monocytes. Elevated levels of this molecule in the blood sera of HIV-infected individuals have been suggested to contribute to B cell malfunctions and consequently, to impairment of the immune system. This study underlines the importance of crosstalk interactions between plasmacytoid dendritic cells and monocytes for triggering the secretion of BAFF in the presence of HIV.
