The Canadian Consortium for HIV Cure Research, CanCURE, is a CIHR-funded pan-Canadian research network working toward an HIV cure.

We are dedicated to understand and target the biological mechanisms that allow HIV to persist despite long-term antiretroviral therapy. For over a decade, CanCURE has built unique expertise in the study of HIV tissue reservoirs and established a collaborative, interdisciplinary model for HIV cure research in Canada.

Through strong partnerships with communities of people living with HIV, we further aim to translate research discoveries into meaningful treatments and real-world impact.

CanCURE Science Buddy program with the Community

CanCURE 1.0 & 2.0 has developed a “Science Buddy” program where trainees and community members learned from each other on a one-on-one basis. With CanCURE 3.0, we are pursuing the pairing up with Trainees and community members who were attending the same scientific conferences, attend talks together and then discuss the significance and impact of the presentations. Learning is achieved in both directions.

Community Conversations on HIV Cure

More than 50 people gathered to exchange ideas On April 23rd, CanCURE hosted "Community Conversations on HIV Cure: What We Know, What We Don’t, and What’s Next" in the margins of the Canadian Association for HIV Research conference held in Winnipeg. The event brough together researchers, community members, and knowledge holders for a meaningful afternoon of presentations and open dialogue. 2025 Annual Meeting in Montreal

The meeting was held in a hybrid format, allowing members across Canada to attend On october 20 and 21 2025, CanCURE held its annual meeting at the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), in Montreal. This event brought toghether the Investigators, trainees and CAB members to review the team's latest achievements, discuss upcoming challenges and assess progress on ongoing initiatives.

CanCURE 3.0 Launch Meeting

A multidisciplinary team with a common objective: Translating basic knowledge on HIV reservoirs and persistence into therapeutic approaches. Our ultimate goal is to develop a safe and scalable cure for HIV infection. The CanCURE team includes immunologists, virologists, clinicians, community representatives and people with HIV who work together to elaborate an innovative and translational research program
